One Spouse Worked Part of the Year

Hello,

My husband and I file married filing jointly. I worked through March of this year, but have since stopped working to raise our child and do not plan to return to being employed for several years. While working, my husband and I earned approximately the same income, so we marked box 2C previously, as we want our tax refund to be as close to $0 as possible when we file. Now that I am not working, so there is only one job total between both of us, should we uncheck box 2C? Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Yes, unchecking box 2c will appropriately reduce his withholding and you will be closer to $0.

Here is a withholding estimator that you may come in handy going forward.

Hope this helps!

Cindy
