Hello Marybernice,

 

If your employer pays for your health insurance premiums, you are not able to deduct those costs.  If the employer only pays for part of the premiums, you may be able to deduct the portion you paid.  It will depend if the portion you paid for your health insurance premiums were paid with pre-tax or post-tax dollars.  If the employer deducted your portion of the health insurance premiums with pre-tax dollars, you would not be able to deduct them as no tax was paid on that payment.  If the premiums were paid with post-tax dollars meaning the amount paid for the premiums were included in the calculations for withholding, social security & medicare taxes.
