How can I change my W-4 so I don’t owe again?

My husband and I both work FT jobs. 2024 will be the first year we won't be able to claim any dependents as they have all finished college. We file jointly and use the standard deduction. How can we change our W-4s so we don't continue to owe Federal and State taxes?

Congratulations on getting the kids through college! To start you want to update your W4's. Step 2 if there are only 2 W2's both of you check box 2(c). Make sure neither of you are showing dependents in Step 3 of W4.

And you can always have extra withheld in Step 4(c).
