Should I check the box for "Box 7 is checked" on form 1098 if my form 1098 box 7 is not formatted as a checkbox, and instead references box 8?

Box 7 should be checked  if the amount in box 1  includes amounts for an academic period beginning January–March 2020.

If you know that to be a fact, then yes check the box in box 7, at the 1098-T screen in turbotax.
