No. You can only claim an education credit for yourself, your spouse or you dependents. You cannot claim a charitable deduction, since it was an individual, not a recognized charity.

The student (or her parents, if she is their dependent) can claim the credit based on your payment.

I filled and taxes were accepted, however I am receiving monies state taxes but owe in federal, does it apply directly?
