Does my daughter have to file taxes if I used $5600 of a scholarship to maximize the American Opportunity Tax Credit?

This was her only income, since she is not working.

Q. Does my daughter have to file taxes if I used $5600 of a scholarship to maximize the American Opportunity Tax Credit?

A. No, since the amount is under $13,850, the filing requirement.  But, you want to have her file anyway, to document the reporting of the scholarship income that allows you to claim the AOTC.
