If you have entered scholarship amounts in excess of tuition, you will not be able to take education credits or deductions. Additionally, some of the scholarship may be considered taxable income.The way the questions are answered may result in the software assuming you do not have or qualify for the expenses. Follow these steps:
- Click on Deductions & Credits
- See all tax breaks
- Education
- Expenses and Scholarships (Form 1098-T)
- Start/Revisit
- Do you want to enter your higher education expenses? Yes
- Add a Student - Answer the related questions
- Did you get a 1098-T? If yes - Will bring you to form where you can enter the tuition. There are no separate entries beyond the form. If no, you must answer that you qualify for the exception in order to enter the tuition and related expenses
