On Turbotax desktop home and business I entered info for Solo 401k for a sole proprietorship. On the solo 401k screen I inadvertently entered $0 under "Employee deferral", $27,700 under "Employer matching (profit sharing)" and $0 under "catch up". It got through through the Review with no flags.
The total amount is fine, but it is above the limit for Employer profit sharing (20% of net profit minus half the SE, plus catch up). The same total amount would be legit if the $27,700 were instead classified as employee deferral and catchup.
Why did TT let this through all the flags when the Employer Profit sharing was above the maximum?
Do the subcategories even matter considering the total amount is still allowed? (I don't think they appear on the actual 1040.)
