reporting music competition award

Our daughter won a music competition and the award was reported on a 1099-NEC. When entering the information on the tax return, the next question was the source of the payment; we answered music competition award and ultimately discovered that it got placed in the business income category. I would have expected it to be miscellaneous income but that was not the case. We can change the category by selecting the 'not common situation' of "This is not money earned as an employee or self-employed individual, it is from a sporadic activity or hobby". Not sure how to proceed since I suppose a chamber music quartet could be considered a business with respect to a performance but the performance itself could also be considered a sporadic activity. We are not quite sure how to file this item. Anyone got suggestions?

Since this is not a continuous "trade or business" for your daughter, just reflect it as "not earned as self-employed".

It should be subject to regular income tax, just not SE Tax based on the limited facts.
