Don't delete your business if it closed sometime in 2023. Instead, report the business and make sure you select I stopped [your business] in 2023 on the Tell us about how long you've worked in [your business] screen.

Otherwise, follow these instructions to delete a business that transferred over from your 2022 return but is no longer owned by you as of January 1, 2023.

Instructions: ↧↧↧↧↧

  1. With your return open, search for business (schedule c). Be sure to include the parentheses.
  2. Select the Jump to link in the search results.
  3. On the Your 2023 self-employed work summary screen, select the trash can icon next to the defunct business.
  4. Select Yes, delete this info to confirm the removal of all business-related forms.

I'm trying to amend my return to add a w2. I can't find anywhere to delete a schedule c. When I get to the review before filing, it keeps asking me to fill in all the boxes for a schedule c.

If you are adding information from a W-2, you may have put it in the wrong place.  If it was entered as a Form 1099-NEC by accident, then that is what is triggering the Schedule C questions.  Double check that you are entering the information in the correct section for W-2s.

If you actually have a Form 1099-NEC, then you probably do need to complete the information for Schedule C.
