D-40WH Hidden: Payor Name-1 has too many characters.

The D-40WH is a form on your DC state return.

Payor Name-1 on the D-40WH comes from your first federal W-2 or 1099. The official DC form has only 13 spaces on the form (the TurboTax version as as many as 20).

Please

  • edit your first W-2 or 1099, and
  • shorten the Employer's or Payer's Name to less than 20 characters.

Do the Review again and see if the error goes away. If so, continue with the return.;

if the error persists, then either

  • shorten the name a few more characters,
  • or try the second W-2 or 1099 (if one), just in case the order of the Payors in DC isn't the same order as the W-2s and 1099s on the federal return.

Note that other users have reported success with names no longer than 20 characters.

Note that shortening the name of the employer or payer on the W-2 or 1099 won't be a problem, if you've made sure that the employer's or payer's EIN on the federal form is correctly entered.
