After entering 1099-Q, T-tax asks if beneficiary disabled or dead, but nothing about the other exceptions e.g., scholarships.

Noticed typos (O vs. I) on a page asking about ed expense refunds..

Yes, 0 received a refund of qualified education expenses.
No, 0 didn't get a refund.

Makes me wonder if 1099-Q section is a work in progress..

The 529 plan will send you a form 1099-Q, for the distribution.

In TurboTax (TT), enter at:

Federal Taxes Tab

Deductions & Credits

-Scroll down to:

--Education

  --ESA and 529 Qualified Tuition Programs (1099-Q)

That entry will get the income on line 21 and force form 5329 for the penalty or penalty exception

Hal_Al - thanks for response, but entered 1099-Q but not seeing 5329? What am i missing. BTW, using T-tax Deluxe online.

And... 1099-Q pages do ask about whether or not beneficiary disabled or dead (other exceptions to 10% tax penalty), but nothing on scholarships exception.
