I filed form 1065 as normal HOWEVER, I entered dates for a short year. We use a calendar year and the date should have been entered as such. Nothing else changes. Can I file an amended 1065 (1065x) to correct this problem? I have received notice from IRS that I owe a penalty of $4,000.00 due to this error. Please proved guidance in this matter.
Thank you!

Amend the return and make absolutely certain you follow the instructions in that notice you got from the IRS on this, to the absolute letter of perfection. Keep in mind there's a "drop dead" date on that letter where if you haven't taken action by the date, then you lose *no* *matter* *what*, with no possibility of recourse.
send it by a method where you get proof of delivery receipt. if the IRS thinks it was filed past the "drop dead" date, your only proof that it was filed timely will be the receipt.
