Error 1625: This installation is forbidden by system policy

Error 1625: This installation is forbidden by system policy occurs when installing or updating TurboTax.

Possible causes

  • You're not logged in as an administrator.
  • Your Windows Installer system policy prevents you from installing digitally-signed software updates.

Solution

Log on to your computer with administrative rights, and then install (or update) TurboTax.

If that doesn't work, you'll need to enable installation of digitally-signed software updates.

Windows Vista, 7, 8 or 10

  1. Hold down the Windows key and press R to bring up the Run window.
  2. In the Run window, type gpedit.msc, and then select OK.
  3. In the Local Group Policy window, navigate to Local Computer Policy, then Computer Configuration, then Administrative Templates, then Windows Components, and then Windows Installer.
  4. Select Prohibit non-administrators from applying vendor-signed updates.
  5. Select Disabled, and then select OK.

Windows XP

  1. Select Start on the taskbar, and then select Run.
  2. In the Run window, type gpedit.msc, and then select OK.
  3. In the Group Policy window, navigate to Local Computer Policy, then Computer Configuration, then Administrative Templates, then Windows Components, and then Windows Installer.
  4. Select Prohibit non-administrators from applying vendor signed updates.
  5. Select Disabled, and then select OK.
