Check it using this site - It should tell you more than just accepted.     Where is my refund?

Be reassured that  if you are rightly due a refund, you'll get it at some point even if takes several weeks or even several months.   So don't be scared that you're not going to get it solely based on the time it's taking.  Some returns are randomly pulled for more processing.   Some require extra processing due to the items in the return.  Or the IRS may end up needing some more info from you.   There's no way to tell unless the IRS leaves you a message at the IRS refund tracker, or you get a letter/notice in the mail.

If it goes on unusually long without any message change at the tool, you could phone the IRS to see if they can tell you anything about the delay.  Since it's been 6 weeks, you could do it now, if you wish, for your own peace of mind.  If you do that, when the robot asks, just say "accounts management" or "speak to an agent about my account."   You may have to say it more than once.

I know that the Government is trying to phase out paper checks, so if you asked to have a paper check mailed to you it will take longer to receive your refund. According to the information I read, if you request a paper check, the IRS will send you instructions for entering your account information online so they can do a direct deposit. If you don't respond for six weeks (at least that's what I think the wait period is), then they will issue a paper check.

The IRS website (irs.gov) says that electronic refunds are typically issued fewer than 21 days, and refunds by mail can take six weeks or longer.
