Why isnt my payment to the IRS through turbo tax showing up when I check my account on IRS.gov. The money was deducted from my bank account 04/15/20

pre covid i scheduled to have my payment debited on 04/15/20 through turbotax. When they announced the extension to 07/15/20, i didnt want to delay payment so i went online, to IRS.gov and used the directpay and paid what i owed on 04/08. On 04/15 my scheduled payment (through turbotax) processed and so now ive paid the irs twice. When i check my payments on IRS, it only shows my directpay payment and not my turbotax. What can i do so i can receive my overpayment refund?

If you indicated the direct payment was for the 2019 balance due and not a 2020 estimated payment then just wait ... once the IRS gets back up to speed the excess payment should be refunded automatically... when this will happen is unknown.   Or you could try calling the IRS and ask for it to be refunded however getting thru on the phones right now may not be possible ...

Call the IRS:  1-800-829-1040  hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Monday-Friday

When calling the IRS do NOT choose the first option re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.

So after first choosing your language, then do NOT choose Option 1 (refund info).  Choose option 2 for "personal income tax" instead.

Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".

Then press 3 "for all other questions."

Then press 2 "for all other questions."

- When it asks you to enter your SSN or EIN to access your account information, don’t enter anything.
- After it asks twice, you will get another menu.
Then press 2 for personal or individual tax questions.
It should then transfer you to an agent.
