Why is my refund amount different vs what was actually deposited ?

Was it more or less than you expected?  And was the deposit for a Federal refund or a state refund?

First, check the IRS "Where's My Refund" site to see what was actually sent.

If your refund deposit is less, did you choose to pay any TurboTax fees out of the Federal refund?  If so, in addition to the product fees, there is a $40 service fee ($45 California) for that payment option.

If you are due a state refund, it comes separately from the state tax agency in another deposit.

If the IRS reduced your refund amount, they will send a letter in about 3 weeks explaining why.
