In January 2022, turbotax informed me that there was an error made by 2020 turbo tax software in calculating tax on form 8615 and I should amend that return if needed. I created form 1040X for tax year 2020 using turbo tax software for 2020. Original 1040 was filed electronically with turbotax in early 2021. In 2022, I'm unable to file 2020 form 1040X as the software limits tax return signature date to calendar year 2021. TurboTax won't allow me to file 2020 Form 1040X in January 2022. Deadline for filing 1040X is three years after filing original tax return. Thus, 2020 tax return can be amended till April 2024. Why is TurboTax preventing me from filing 2020 Form 1040X in January 2022? If a 2021 signature date is acceptable to turbotax, then any date prior to April 15, 2024 should be acceptable. This doesn't make any sense. IRS has over 7.8 million paper tax returns that have not been processed. Is there any plan to provide a fix to customers who are unable to file 2020 Form 1040 X electronically?

Since the IRS has allowed e-filing of amended returns including certain prior years, Turbotax has chosen not to provide for that in its app.
But I used 2020 turbotax to file 2020 1040X in 2021. Turbotax allowed me to file 1040X electronically as long as the signature date was in the year the original return was filed. It doesn't allow efiling if the signature date is not in the year the original return was filed. It is as if TurboTax deems deadline for filing a 1040X is December 31 of the year original tax return was filed instead of three years after deadline for filing original tax return.
