Can you explain exactly what happened?

You received a 1098 with interest you paid but didn't report it on your returns?

Each year that you pay mortgage interest, you are entitled to claim that interest as an itemized deduction.  Whether you get any actual tax benefit depends on your other itemized deductions and your overall income.

Interest paid in each year can only be deducted on that year's tax return, if you forget, you can't add it to a future year, you must go back and file an amended return for the year you paid the interest.

It is too late to amend a 2020 tax return to get a refund, the deadline has passed.    You can still file an amended return for 2023, if you forgot to include some of your mortgage interest, but you would have to prepare the return to see if it makes any actual change in refund dollars, we can't guess because it depends on all your financial circumstances.
