IF you faxed it to the IRS, once the IRS receives your information, it can take a while for someone to look at it because of the massive amount of information they are processing at this time of year. When they send you a letter requesting additional information, it places your return into “limbo” until you send that information and supporting documentation in to complete your return. After somebody is able to look at your response, they either send your return to be processed or they will request more information because your response was incomplete. That can take about two weeks from the date they received your information. You should receive a letter acknowledging receipt of that response within 30 days. Your return should be processed within 6–8 weeks.
