I have already submitted and paid my taxes - I was going through Turbo Tax and accidentally hit Amend taxes, and now my file shows $0. How do I recover my original file?

I have already submitted and paid my taxes weeks ago.  I was going through Turbo Tax to check something, and accidentally hit Amend taxes, and now my return shows $0 for both Federal and State. How do I recover my original file?  I tried closing the return without saving, but when I reopened my file, I am seeing the exact same thing.   If I go through the return section by section, all of my info is there, but it just shows the $0.   What can i do to correct this?

Don't worry!  You just need to delete the Federal and State amended returns.

To Delete the Federal Amended return:

If you need to delete your amended return, please click on:

  • Federal Taxes,
  • Other Tax Situations and scroll down to
  • Other Tax Forms
  • Click the button beside Amend a Return.  (See the screen shot below.)
  • Scroll down to the bottom of the screen.
  • You should see “Nevermind, I don’t need to amend.”
  • Click the cancel button.  (See second screen shot below.)

Then, to delete the State Amended return:

  • Click on the State Taxes tab in Turbo Tax,
  • Click continue
  • Click "Edit" beside your state return. (Hopefully you will see a screen like the third screen shot.  But if not, then start going through your state return until you get to that screen.)
  • Click "Edit" beside Other Situations.
  • This will take you to "A few things before we wrap up your state taxes".
  • Click "Revisit" next to Amend a Tax Return.
  • Then click on "Delete my 2016 amended return".  See fourth screen shot
