2020 Pathers EITC/ACTC Update here

@ericka9491  Very true. Me too honestly, I just try not to focus on it it much lol

2020 Pathers EITC/ACTC Update here

@wcsmith40  Nothing will happen this friday or Saturday. Saturday being the and 15th pact act wont lift untill midnight into the 16th. Probably wont see any updates untill very least Wednesday. This is due to the way the 15th lands compared to previous years. Last year's the 16th landed on a Saturday so everyone saw updates however Monday is a holiday nothing will happen. We will go to a generic processing message when the path act lifts and after that we should get a solid date.

Everyone under path act updates weekly. However after the path act lifts we go back to being daily updates. That's in the irs manual. This year is just delayed due to the weekend and presidents day. IRS always over shoots a week to be safe. This year they are saying first funds should hit first week if march and not the 27th like all the other years. In betting,since they over shoot, first finds will be end of next week or the last Wednesdays of the month.

Their wording is different this year compared to last in the path act message because they cant give out a a solid date untill after Presidents Day.

2020 Pathers EITC/ACTC Update here

@caron1981  I’m confused what you are saying. Presidents’ Day last year was the 18th and the 15th was Friday. This year it’s the 17th which is a Monday like it is every year. I’ve been reading forums all day and they say path act with end the 15th not after. People update on weekends all the time so what would make this weekend any different considering Presidents’ Day is on monday every year. I’ve updated on a Saturday every year regardless of the holiday. Holiday only stops refunds from coming on. Tuesday but not from being processed. You may be right but then again you may not be.

2020 Pathers EITC/ACTC Update here

The PATH Act only stops the IRS from releasing refunds with those specific credits before "mid-February." February has 29 days this year, so that would be a deposit sent ON the 15th at the earliest.

@emptyspiral13

True that. Might be surprised Saturday but IRS ready said it will be several days after the 15th.

2020 Pathers EITC/ACTC Update here

Why do you think WMR won’t update this Saturday?? It updated last Saturday? I’m confused at your eagerness to tell ppl so matter- of-fact, nothing is changing and you know? Like do you have some inside knowledge because from you what I’ve seen the irs is a bit unpredictable.

2020 Pathers EITC/ACTC Update here

My goodness it's written plain and simple on the irs website......read below.

AND here's the link also. In bold is where it says you will not see an update until several days after the 15th.

If you have already updated to the path act, the next update comes after it is lifted. It does not lift until AFTER THE 15TH.

ALSO the pact act is the law ITS A LAW they can't release anything until after or even update until after the 15th or in this case mid to late February.

https://www.irs.gov/individuals/refund-timing

Taxpayers who claim the Earned Income Tax Credit or the Additional Child Tax Credit may experience a refund hold. According to the Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes (PATH) Act, the IRS cannot issue these refunds before mid-February. The IRS expects the first EITC/ACTC related refunds to be available in taxpayer bank accounts or on debit cards by the first week of March, if they chose direct deposit and there are no other issues with their tax return. Check Where’s My Refund for your personalized refund date.
WMR on IRS.gov and the IRS2Go app will be updated with projected deposit dates for most early EITC/ACTC refund filers by February 22. So EITC /ACTC filers will not see an update to their refund status for several days after Feb. 15.
The IRS, tax preparers and tax software will not have additional information on refund dates, so Where’s My Refund? remains the best way to check the status of a refund. Where’s My Refund? is only updated once daily, usually overnight, so you don’t need to check the status more often.
Why is my refund being held?
If you claim the EITC or ACTC on your tax return, the IRS cannot issue your refund before mid-February. The law requires the IRS to hold the entire refund — even the portion not associated with the EITC or ACTC. Like previous years, some tax refunds may be held if there are questions about the tax return or the IRS needs more information.
When will I get my refund?
The IRS expects the first EITC/ACTC related refunds to be available in taxpayer bank accounts or on debit cards by the first week of March, if they chose direct deposit and there are no other issues with their tax return. Check Where’s My Refund for your personalized refund date.
Why does it take so long for the funds to show up in my account?
It takes additional time for refunds to be processed after leaving the IRS, and for financial institutions to accept and deposit them to bank accounts and products like debit cards. Also, many financial institutions do not process payments on weekends or holidays, which can affect when refunds reach taxpayers. For EITC and ACTC filers, the three-day holiday weekend involving President’s Day affects their refund timing.
How do I check the status of my refund?
WMR on IRS.gov and the IRS2Go app will be updated with projected deposit dates for most early EITC/ACTC refund filers by February 22. So EITC /ACTC filers will not see an update to their refund status for several days after Feb. 15.
The IRS, tax preparers and tax software will not have additional information on refund dates, so these filers should not contact or call about refunds before the end of February.

Some people on here are so **bleep** act like they know everything smh

QUOTE from the IRS site :

How quickly will I get my refund?
We issue most refunds in less than 21 calendar days.

I’m counting on my refund for something important. Can I expect to receive it in 21 days?
Many different factors can affect the timing of your refund after we receive your return. Even though we issue most refunds in less than 21 days, it’s possible your refund may take longer. Also, remember to take into consideration the time it takes for your financial institution to post the refund to your account or for you to receive it by mail.

It's been longer than 21 days since the IRS received my return and I haven’t gotten my refund. Why?
Some tax returns take longer to process than others for many reasons, including when a return:

  • Includes errors
  • Is incomplete
  • Is affected by identity theft or fraud
  • Includes a claim filed for an Earned Income Tax Credit or an Additional Child Tax Credit. See Q&A below.
  • Includes a Form 8379, Injured Spouse Allocation, which could take up to 14 weeks to process
  • Needs further review in general

We will contact you by mail when we need more information to process your return.

I claimed the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) or the Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC) on my tax return. When can I expect my refund?

According to the Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes (PATH) Act, the IRS cannot issue EITC and ACTC refunds before mid-February. The IRS expects most EITC/ACTC related refunds to be available in taxpayer bank accounts or on debit cards by the first week of March, if they chose direct deposit and there are no other issues with their tax return. Where’s My Refund? on IRS.gov and the IRS2Go mobile app remains the best way to check the status of a refund. My personal opinion ...  Everyone should stop worrying about something you have no control over ... what happened in the past may not be the same as last year EVEN for the same person.   Just check the IRS site once a day in the morning for your personal message.

@caron1981  Thank you!

2020 Pathers EITC/ACTC Update here

@caron1981  Ok we know what the irs says but what happens if people update on Saturday. Then will you still be copy and paste’n things that you googled from the irs. They say people won’t receive their refunds til March and late February last year but people received them between the 19-22 which is mid February.... so just because you copy and paste doesn’t make it true. We will just have to wait and see

2020 Pathers EITC/ACTC Update here

@erikanmares

Also you got an update last year on a Saturday because that Saturday was THE 16TH that is the day after the 15th right? And Saturdays are when they update correct? HOWEVER this year Saturday and the 15th so no update on the 15th BECAUSE path act will not be lifted until after the 15th,

It's always the 15th BECAUSE THAT WAS WRITTEN IN THE PATH ACT LAW FROM CONGRESS.

I guess what the IRS says is not true even though it comes straight from them?

ok...I guess basic reading comprehension does not work with you nothing will.

Y’all copying and pasting things we can research ourselves. And if People wanna get on here and express their concerns and help others we should be able to. It’s our money so just because we have no control over the process is all the more reason to worry. We are just here to be informative to each other about are taxes. Not people personal opinions .
