Payment of Taxes

I scheduled my payment to be sent on May 14. From checking my bank I can see that neither my federal or state taxes have been paid yet. I understand it could take a few days more but I want to be sure I will not be penalized for late payment when I specifically requested that the payment go out on time by the 14th. Also, both of my returns have been received and accepted.

There seems to be some delay with the IRS withdrawing the funds. There will be no penalties or interest if the IRS failed to make the debit on time as long as the request was done correctly on a timely filed return.

Usually, the IRS will withdraw the amount on the day you selected. If that date happens to fall on a weekend or federal holiday, the funds are typically withdrawn the next business day. Please see When will my tax payment go through? for additional information.

Where can one check if they selected a withdrawal of funds automatically? I'm in the same situation as the OP, and I am pretty sure I selected the option to have the funds withdrawn automatically from my bank account when I filed. I don't want to be penalized is all, this whole process has me quite anxious.

Please check your Filing Instruction Page that you have entered the correct information:

  1. In TurboTax Online, sign into your account.
  2. Select Tax Home in the left menu.
  3. Scroll down to Your tax returns & documents.
  4. Select Add a State (you're not actually adding a state, this opens the return back up)
  5. Select Tax Tools on the left and then Print Center and choose the print center

Thank you so much for that, that file should really be accessible in the main page. I guess I just need to wait till it is debited from my account.
