I posted this question earlier. I live in MI. and work in OH. My employer withheld OH taxes. I've filed as a non resident and put my tax liability withheld in the income earned box. It still showing I owe money. My wife also works in OH. But her employer paid the state taxes to MI.

Help please.

Because they have a reciprocal agreement, you should only pay tax to the state in which you live, Michigan.

First complete the Federal return and next do the Ohio return.

Enter the INCOME (Box 16 on your W2) you had Ohio tax withheld on.

Continue through the interview. You should get a full refund from Ohio.

If you paid any local tax, that will not be refunded. (Cities and counties are not part of the reciprocal agreement)

Continue with your Michigan return.

File IT-4NR with your Ohio employer so only Michigan state tax is withheld.
