Individuals that are residents of Canada or Mexico can be claimed as dependents on US tax returns if they meet the requirements to be treated as qualifying relative or as qualifying child dependents. However, you will need to obtain a ITIN in order to claim your parents as dependents in your return.

Parents can only be claimed as qualifying relative dependents. They would need to meet the following requirements:

  1. They each must have less than 4,050 dollars of income.
  2. You must have provided more than half of their support.
