My friend mailed his Federal return February 11th and according to online it has not been received yet.
I know this was dumb, he sent it with no tracking.
Should he mail another copy, this time with a tracking number?
If you send a copy, do you put a cover page that explains the first copy was not received and label the new copy "2nd copy" ?
What is the procedure in this situation? Do you mail a 2nd one, this time with tracking, so you can prove there was a return sent -- before 4/18/22?
Could it be it made it there and just hasn't been marked as received by the IRS in 2 months?
Thank you!

The IRS is processing a backlog of mailed returns. At a minimum, it takes 4 weeks to process. We don't want to advise sending multiple returns. The best way to ensure the return is filed is to keep checking back or call the IRS directly.
