It looks like I incorrectly reported an overfunding of my HSA on my 2015 return, which is affecting my 2016 calculations. Can I make a correction on my 2016 return?

It looks like I duplicated my employer/payroll deducted contributions on my 2015 Form 8889.  What is the best way of handling for 2016 return?

No, unfortunately, you can't fix this on your 2016 return.

First, you need to amend your 2015 return, which will presumably show that you had no excess contributions carryover after all.

If you have not filed your 2016 return, then just go ahead and finish the return, changing the answer about the carryover from 2015 to be zero.

If you have already filed your 2016 return, then you will need to amend it as well.
