You have filed an amended tax return for 2018 and you have taxes due.
You have prepared your 2019 taxes and you have a refund.
You want to know if you can pay your 2018 taxes with the 2019 refund?
The simple answer is No.
You cannot directly allocate the amount on your return from 2019 to the previous year.
However, if you filed the amended 2018 taxes a while ago, and it has been processed, the 2019 refund will automatically be allocated to 2018, and you will only get the balance as a refund.
Otherwise, you will have to make arrangements to pay for 2018 directly.
