IRS LETTER 2645C

Hello, I received this letter 5 June 2024, however it is very frustrating because it does not specify what the delay is only that they need an additional 60 days to send a complete response.  The concern that I have with this letter is that it is coming from the director of return integrity Verification Ops. Should i be worried because this is the fraud identity department and I didn't fraud the IRS.  My husband and I are who we are.  DO we need to let the IRS know that it is us and we are not frauding anybody.  It is not saying that we got frauded or that we frauded someone but it makes me nervous because it is coming from that particular dept.  Should i be worried?  thanks

The IRS is making sure that refunds are legitimately claimed. Maybe yours was chosen at random. No reason to worry if your return is accurate.

IRS LETTER 2645C

Hi, today I sent in documentation to the IRS. I never got a notice. I called and spoke with someone; following up and the person told me what I needed to do. I sent in the documentation today. However, after I sent the documentation, I decided to go back over our 2023 1040. I played around as if I was going to submit an amendment and I found my problem.  I made a mistake in numbers(math). Should I complete and submit an amended tax return, or wait for the IRS to receive my documentation and see if they fix it for me?   Also, because I called the IRS to follow-up and was told to send in documentation, when I get the notice, do I ignore the notice since I have already responded, should I call the IRS and ask what to do with the notice, or what?

If you get a notice asking for an action, you have to respond, even if it just to say you already responded.

BUT

the information requested has to go to the office specified in the notice.

Sending an amendment might cause confusion. Let the IRS sort it out.
