I printed my taxes and then tried to amend them but DIDN'T finish it. I just MAILED the first copy instead. I mailed it to Austin April 4th.

If you printed the return, but you did not yet mail them, you didn't need to amend the return, you could have simply gone back into the original and fixed or edited it. 

If you now have mailed the original (faulty) return, you'll need to finish amending it and mail the 1040X in.
