I'm filing a second amended return.

I filing a second return because I want to change my status from separate to jointly I made a mistake.So I did the second amended return and the refund is a lot higher just want to make sure I did it right this time as for state it says its 0. I already got my Fed and State back put I had to file an amended return because I for a W 2 but now I have to file another amended return because I put the wrong filing status resulting in me owing taxes. So I just don't want to make anymore mistakes. Please help me.

I'm filing a second amended return.

Ok ... amending from MFS to MFJ  is not an easy thing to do ... too many moving parts which will require either manual entries or the downloaded version of the program.  Did the other spouse file a return yet ?  

 

 Look at the form 1040X … you have to take into consideration the other spouse's info as well on the amended return ... 

Column A should have the figures from the original return(or first amended return) , Column C the corrected figures and Column B the differences between the other 2 which needs an explanation on page 2 of the form 1040X.

 

If you completed it correctly you will see an entry on either line 16 OR 18:

On line 16 should be the amount you paid with your original return. 

On line 18 should be the amount of your original refund you received.

 

Then you will see your extra refund on line 22 OR  the new balance due you need to pay on line 20.
