I left a digit off the end of my bank account number and it says my refund has been deposited into the account, but it's not the correct account. How do I fix this?

Did you happen to have any TurboTax fees that you chose to pay out of your Federal refund? If so, your Federal refund goes from the IRS to an intermediary bank first. We can tell you more about that process and how you can check on it if you used that payment method.

Since you paid fees out of your Federal refund, here's some info of what "may" happen.   Your funds go first from the IRS to an intermediary company.   The IRS uses the deposit account and routing number for your temporary account at the bank of the intermediary company (SBTPG).   So that first deposit should be successful.

Then the intermediary company will subtract the fees and send the rest to your bank in a second direct deposit.   It will probably fail at your bank.  You could call your bank and ask them what they think they will do when they get it without the last digit.

If it fails at your bank, it will go back to the intermediary company (SBTPG), who will issue you a check in the mail to the address on your return.

If you act quickly, you can phone the intermediary company (SBTPG) and tell them what happened, to see if they can intervene in any way if there's still time.  The contact page is at a link I've enclosed below.

You can also log into your temporary account at SBTPG to see the status of the funds.  I'll tell you how in the section below.

If you chose to pay your TurboTax fees out of your Federal refund, your funds will first go from the IRS to a temporary account at an intermediary bank--either Civista Bank of Sandusky, Ohio, or Green Dot Bank.  At the intermediary bank the fees are subtracted, then the rest of your funds are sent on to your bank (or prepaid debit card) in a second deposit.  The company that handles that is SBTPG (Santa Barbara Tax Products Group.)

Less commonly there can be delays at the intermediary bank, and additional ID info, etc. might be required.

If for any reason the second deposit fails (the one that is actually to your bank or card), it will bounce back to SBTPG's bank who will issue you a paper check in the mail.

Once the IRS has released your funds, you can log in to your temporary account at SBTPG to see the status of your funds.

To log in, choose the taxpayer portal at:
https://www.sbtpg.com/

SBTPG has a phone contact page at the following link. It also shows their business hours.  Even when they are closed, you may be able to get automated info, or you can log in as above.
