Some states start processing e-filed returns at the same time as the IRS, while others don't start processing until sometime later.

It's not unusual for state returns to remain in pending status several days after the federal return has already been accepted. This is especially common when e-filing first opens in January or early February.

Sit tight and your state return will – eventually – move along in the queue.

Here is a state refund lookup tool:

Simply click/tap your state below for refund lookup instructions.

These states have have no state income tax. If you live in one of these states, you would have no potential refund to track:

  • Alaska
  • Florida
  • Nevada
  • South Dakota
  • Texas
  • Washington Wyoming

Alabama (AL) Kentucky (KY) North Carolina (NC) Arizona (AZ) Louisiana (LA) North Dakota (ND) Arkansas (AR) Maine (ME) Ohio (OH) California (CA) Maryland (MD) Oklahoma (OK) Colorado (CO) Massachusetts (MA) Oregon (OR) Connecticut (CT) Michigan (MI) Pennsylvania (PA) Delaware (DE) Minnesota (MN) Rhode Island (RI) District of Columbia (DC) Mississippi (MS) South Carolina (SC) Georgia (GA) Missouri (MO) Tennessee (TN) Hawaii (HI) Montana (MT) Utah (UT) Idaho (ID) Nebraska (NE) Vermont (VT) Illinois (IL) New Hampshire (NH) Virginia (VA) Indiana (IN) New Jersey (NJ) West Virginia (WV) Iowa (IA) New Mexico (NM) Wisconsin (WI) Kansas (KS) New York (NY)
