There’s a lot of answers here but from what I can tell you cannot file an amended return for an S corporation unless you actually mail it in and make the changes yourself. It will not allow you to e-file
You are correct and that has been confirmed at this point.
That is correct, you cannot e-file an amended S corp or Form 1120-S.
If i can't efile - can someone tell me how to file this? or when I can file it? Do I print it out and just resend according to instructions? do i have to fill out another form to let IRS know it's amended? I fixed the missing number and I checked "amended" on the forms section - but now what? Can someone help me with the process of it all, ie, I efiled last night - I do XYZ, then mail in the amended return ... am I going to owe penalties? Thanks!
Yes, you need to print out and mail your amended Form 1120-S to the appropriate IRS office. Here is a link to an IRS webpage that explains to what address a Form 1120-S should be sent.
Thanks for that link - super helpful, but do i need to do anythign else? like tell them what i changed? or sign a new 8453something form? (I just fold that sucker up and send it, feels too easy for some reason.)
You aren't required to include an explanation as to why you are amending form 1120-S like you do with a personal tax return amendment, but you can include such an explanation if you feel it will be helpful.
