How do I report the credit for overpayment of taxes from my 2023 return on my 2024 return

I overpaid in 2023 and indicated on that return that I wanted to apply the overpayment to my 2024 taxes. I can't figure out how to do that with the Intuit software for this year.

It "may" have transferred in from last year if you are using the same product as last year, but you need to be sure and check it, and enter if necessary.  Here's how:

I don't know for sure if you are using Online TurboTax or desktop TurboTax.    The following is for desktop, but it should be similar in Online TurboTax.   If using Online TurboTax and having trouble with these steps, I can tell you some other ways to get to it, too.

  • Federal Taxes tab
  • Subtab Deductions & Credits
  • "I'll choose what I work on"
  • Deductions & Credits Summary page.
  • Scroll down to Estimates and Other Taxes Paid.
  • Choose subtopic Other Income Taxes.
  • On the "Other income taxes" screen, scroll down to 2023 refund applied to 2024 taxes, and choose the types of refunds you need to apply.

Addendum

Also, before filing, review your Form 1040 and be sure the overpayment amount flowed correctly and is included in the figure on your Form 1040, Line 26.   If you made 2024 estimated payments, they should also show up there in the figure on the same line.
