I submitted my taxes. paid 3 k to federal and got 1.3k fron nys. now I realized that I made a mistake and want to change my deductions. I will probably need to pay more money back. can I do a new tax before april 15 or do I wait after april 15 to send an ammendment? how do I inform federal that I already paid 3k and only need to send the rest of the money owed or can i put that info on turbo tax when doing the change or ammendment? thank you

You will need to amend your returns, but you don't have to wait until after April 15 (unless you want to).

When you are preparing your amended return, TurboTax will pick up the figures from your original return (the $3,000 federal payment and the $1300 refund from NY).

ok. thanks for your resonse.  can i ask for a payment plan when I complete the ammendment? I remember that turbotax gave me that option when I submitted the refund the 1st time.

The installment plan was available as an option when you originally filed your return, through the File section of TurboTax.
