Does anyone know about the solar energy credit? TurboTax says I need an IRS-issued registration number. We were never told anything about that.

Are you trying to claim a business credit?  What program are you using?  The Residential Clean Energy Credit is part of your personal tax return, and is claimed on form 5695.  The interview for this is in the "your home" section of the deductions and credits page.  A registration number is not required this year.  If you are trying to claim a business credit, the rules and forms are different.
