Amending Return

I filed Federal Return in early March. After filing I received 1099G for Unemployment Compensation. Since the amount was under the $10K threshold I mistakenly believed it was excludable from income when I originally filed return.  Refund due on the original return (without unemployment) was $7,600, which has not been paid.  When I amended return to include unemployment the refund was reduced by $1,000. However the system assumed that the original refund had been paid and the the amended return should include a payment of $1,000. I tried to check the status of my refund and it was still processing.  What is my next step?

Amending Return

Wait.   The IRS us backlogged with about 34 million returns that have not been processed - some form 2019.

If you already filed - do not amend. See this:
