I filed my 2022 taxes already and owed money (Federal & State). I have already paid this.
I just filed an amended return (for significant medical expenses I neglected to include) and will now receive refunds (Federal & State).
So am I correct that I will receive refunds AS WELL AS reimbursement for what I already paid?

An amended return is processed separate from your original return. Make sure the amount you paid with your original return is on your amended return (Line 18). From there the amended returns calculates the information you entered and the amount of taxes you paid, which can result in a refund due or more taxes owed.
The amended return should already taken into consideration of the taxes you paid, the refund you get is the overpayment from your original return. You do not get the original payment back. You get back what the amended return states.
