You don't need to amend your return. You cannot be a dependent of yourself. You are the taxpayer, and someone else that you support (not a spouse) can be a dependent.
If you need to amend for another reason, you will be able to amend once your original is processed. Check your filing status to see when it is accepted and you have either received your refund or paid the tax due. Then file an amended return if needed.
You can find more details here: TurboTax: Rules for Claiming a Dependent on Your Tax Return.
Sorry, I was not clear enough before. I (the mother of the dependent) need to amend the return because the child is not marked as a dependent. My tax return was rejected because the child did not mark herself as a dependent and it looks like I am trying to file a non-dependent on my tax return. In the app, the amend return does not appear. Is there a delay in being able to amend the return? The federal says it has been accepted.
Yes, the dependent will need to Amend their return to change their status. The parent will either need to mail their return (claiming the dependent) or get an IP PIN from the IRS to Efile.
