Call the institution you borrowed the money from and discuss

Since they lent the money on the credit of two people they would be unlikely to absolve you of the debt without re-underwriting the other person to confirm they are comfortable only having the other person solely responsible for the debt

If the other person is not willing to be reunderwruttem and take sole responsibility for the debt . You are kinda sunk....
