Returning Member

2018 PA 40 filing status.

In 2018 the taxpayer dies and the spouse is trying to file a joint return in PA, but Turbo Tax is not allowing her. She file a joint return for her federal taxes.  Per the PA 40 instructions on page 6 she is allowed to file jointly so and ideas out there?  Is Turbo Tax right or is there is there a fix in the near future or is there a way to override what Turbo Tax is telling her.  They want her two file two individual tax returns and I do not see why that is necessary.  Thanks.

2018 PA 40 filing status.

Look for the Pennsylvania summary screen and follow these steps:

  • "You've finished your Pennsylvania return"--Update the Personal Information
  • "About Your Pennsylvania return"- Continue,
  • "Tell Us About Any Additional Filing Information" - this is where you can change the filing status.

If you do not see this, I recommend Deleting the state to start again.  See
