Building a house

So my wife and I have been during the ol Dave Ramsey baby steps. Next month we’ll have $11,000 in the savings. After that, I estimate my truck will be paid off around March 2020. Having said that, we have some land out in the boonies we’re wanting to build on. I've bought a house when I was 21 but never built one. With construction loans, what do I need to look out for and how much should we throw in the saving before we start building? I was thinking about getting $60,000 beforehand since that's 20% of $300,000. Any suggestions on certain loans and savings idea can help a lot.

I have not had any experience with being the general contractor or builder of a home. You sound like you are doing the right things to get going on your project. A 20% down payment  is normal for a regular mortgage but  may not be enough for the construction loan. You do have some value as collateral in the land you own but the banks want to see something they can resell if need be.

 All the internet stuff I saw on construction loans was put out by loan companies-and you are seem not yet ready to have them  ringing up your phone. Good luck with your goals   .  @jlohani  do you have any info/sources for him?
