Do I need to file - income less than 12K

Hello,

I'm a resident alien (green card holder) and I have not been in US since May 2017....so whole 2018 I was in native country. I'm a single and under 65.

I didn't earn any income in US in 2018 because I was not there. I made some small income in foreign country but it is less than $5,000. I did not have any other income anywhere.

Do I need to file a tax return?

I've read a lot of web pages but I not sure what to do...If I understood correctly I don't need to do anything because gross income is less than 12K.

Am I right?

Thanks in advance.

As a US resident with a green card, the same tax laws apply to you as to a US Citizen. So you wouldn't be required to file a tax return with income less than $12,000 unless it is self-employment income, in which case it is subject to Self-Employment Tax, and you'd need to file if you had gross income of $400 or more.
