If the 529 is your son's 529, then the money went to the taxpayer. When your son is the owner of the 529, he is both the taxpayer and beneficiary.

Okay, I got it to work. I exited and logged back into turbotax. I deleted the 1099-Q and 1098-T forms. I then checked "Forms" view for errors - didn't see any. ...
