Thanks! I should have mentioned the tt version I am using.Also, turbotax ought to clarify what to do in this case, like your versions does.

I'm not seeing that. Do we have different TT versions? I have home & business version.When I add a capital sale, I see these dialogs:

When I do so, it asks me to enter the bank or brokerage that gave me the 1099-b.It was a private transaction. Should I enter the seller's name?
