In TurboTax Online, you can erase your return and start from scratch as long as you haven't submitted payment, deducted the TurboTax fee from your refund, or registered. Please follow the Turbo Tax FAQ on how to clear and start over your return.

We're here to help you figure out why your return was rejected, fix it and be done for good. Please read the TurboTax FAQ listed below and follow the instructions to fix your rejected return.

My return has also been rejected and won't go through. I would like to go to my regular tax person instead. I haven't paid anything, and the "clear & start over" button says I can't because i have already e-filed? I'm not pending right now, just rejected. Can I leave this as is and just go to my tax person?

@oocastro, the clear and start over feature will only work if you haven't submitted payment, deducted the TurboTax fee from your refund, or registered. However, if you have not yet paid and have not successfully fixed the rejection then you will be ok. Just to be sure, go ahead and check your e-file status here.

@HM24, you may switch from e-file to mail by following these steps.

What happens if I do have it deducted from my tax return is it still possible to fix?

Would you please clarify your question so we can fully assist you? What did you deduct from your taxes? Have you submitted your tax return?

I tried to file on turbo tax but it keeps coming back as rejected. I want to cancel the process and go through my normal tax person as this has been a difficult process. I tried the “clear and start over” button but it says I can’t because I already filed but no payments have came out and my return was rejected. What can I do to cancel this whole process ?

You are required to submit payment in order to e-file (or print, if you're not e-filing).  Once this is done, the software will not allow you to clear and start over, as the IRS requires TurboTax to store copies of your return, even if it's rejected.

If you have not submitted them you can start over. This article will provide information on Clearing & Starting Over after you've registered.

Look for an ACTION NEEDED! email from turbotax@intuit.com. It will give you a brief explanation of your rejection and how to fix it.

If you did not receive an email then sign in to TurboTax, select Fix my return, and you will see your reject code and explanation.
