Getting copy of 2018 Taxes

I filled my taxes with turbotax last year and I scroll down to Your tax returns & documents, and selected Download/print return (PDF), but an error keeps on popping up which says "To download your past TurboTax returns, you need to register your account first." It gives me an option to take me to a link and walk me through the step but the steps just tell me how to do what I have already done, it shows me how to get to Download/print return (PDF) and nothing else. Please help me on which steps I need to take to access last year's file.

How do I access a prior year return?

Before starting, make sure you're using the same TurboTax account (with the same username) as previous years.

You'll get access to your prior year returns through Your tax returns & documents in Tax Home.

If you don't already have access and you’re planning on filing with TurboTax this year, you can register or pay first and then go back to work on your taxes later.

Follow these steps exactly and you will be able to access the prior year online tax returns.

To access:

  1. If you haven't chosen yet, pick the product that is right for you (if you aren’t sure, select TurboTax Free Edition) when starting.
  2. Follow the screens and provide some personal info.
  3. When you've reached the Personal info summary screen, select Continue.
  4. Select File in the left menu (this is just a step in order to register or pay, you won’t actually be filing).
  5. Continue until you get to Review your order and select Start.
  6. Select View payment options.
  7. Register or pay for TurboTax, depending on which version you're using.
  8. Go to Tax Home in the left menu.
  9. Under Your tax returns & documents, go to Download/print return (PDF) (select Show if not visible).

This is the message that pops up in the link that I said wasn't too helpful in my case. I am logged into Turbo Tax same username I filed taxes with last year, then I go to Turbo home, scroll to the bottom and do exactly as it says and it keeps taking me back to the same message. It is like an endless loop.

You can get a copy of your 2018 tax return from TurboTax.

Sign in to TurboTax making sure you're using the same TurboTax account (with the same username) as in prior years.

  1. Select Documents from the navigation when it appears.

  2. Use the drop-down menu at the top of the screen to choose the tax year you want and then select Download PDF.

I am just trying to get my AGI for my 2018 taxes which I filed with Turbo Tax.  How can I get that copy.  I changed my email so I could get it but I cannot find it.

To access your current or prior year tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the userID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/

Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and on the section Your tax returns & documents click on Show.  Click on the Year and Click on View adjusted gross income (AGI)

Or go to this IRS website for free federal tax return transcripts - https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript

If your tax return continues to be rejected with the 2018 AGI then enter a 0 (zero) for the AGI and e-file again.

If this is also rejected then you will have to print and mail the tax return.

See this TurboTax support FAQ for printing a tax return for mailing - https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/printing/help/how-do-i-print-and-mail-my-return-in-turbotax-online...

My email has changed because of my graduation from college, they turn it right off.  So I went in and changed the email to my new email and they do not show up.

If your 2018 returns were prepared in Online TurboTax, log into your account and at the Tax Home scroll down and expand the section "Your Tax  Returns & Documents".  Choose tax year 2018, and then click "Download/print the PDF" or if you just need the 2018 AGI, there is a link "View adjusted gross income (AGI.)"  If you can't find your 2018 return there, then you likely have multiple accounts and signed into the wrong one.   Many people end up with multiple accounts without realizing it.   Here's how to troubleshoot for multiple accounts (User IDs) :

You can have up to 5 accounts that use the same email address for notification purposes.  A User ID may be an email address, but it doesn't have to be.  It might be only part of an email address, or it can be anything at all.

To get a list of your User IDs and recover account access, you can use the tool at the link below.  When using the Account Recovery tool, try using your phone number first.   After that, if necessary, then run the tool on your email address(es) you can access.

NOTE: Before running the account recovery tool below, log out of all Intuit accounts including this user forum, or you might end up in a loop.  Then clear your browser Internet cache, close your browser, then reopen it, and go to the link below.  You may wish to copy this link so you can paste it into the new browser session.

https://myturbotax.intuit.com/account-recovery

If still no luck after running that on your phone number and email address(es) that you can access,  here's another method:

Go back to the tool again, but this time leave the data field blank, and choose the small blue link that says "Try something else", and it will look you up by SSN and other parameters.

If you used TurboTax Online to file your taxes last year, follow the instructions below.  If you filed another way, please advise.

You can access your prior year returns using the Documents tab in the navigation.

When you sign in, make sure you're using the same TurboTax account (with the same username) as in prior years. (If the instructions below don't work, you'll need to locate your account that contains the tax return you want to download.)

  1. Select Documents from the navigation when it appears.
  2. Use the drop-down menu at the top of the screen to choose the tax year you want and then select Download PDF.

Want to download your customer data including your prior year returns? Sign in to TurboTax and select Intuit Account to access all your data in accordance with our updated privacy policy.
