No, we cannot obtain your AGI, however you can find this information in one of the several ways listed below. The IRS requires your 2019 AGI to verify your identity for e-filing. If you decide to paper file your tax return, you won't need your AGI because those are manually processed.

To find your 2019 AGI:

  • If you filed your 2019 taxes with TurboTax, sign in and go down to Your tax returns & documents. Select View adjusted gross income (AGI).
  • If you didn’t file your taxes with TurboTax in 2019, you can locate your 2019 AGI on line 8b. If you filed a 1040NR, it'll be on line 35.
  • If do not have a copy of your 2019 tax return, you can get your AGI is from the IRS. You can order a free transcript of your return at the IRS Get Transcripts  site or you can purchase a full copy of your 2019 tax return. Both versions will include your AGI.

If you didn't file a 2019 federal tax return (or you haven't filed one yet), enter 0 as your AGI.

If your AGI is rejecting...........

When did you file 2019? If it was late in the year or you mailed it, try putting in zero for the AGI. And see, https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/rejections/help/what-if-i-entered-the-correct-agi-and-i-m-still-getting-an-e-file-reject/00/27031

How to correct the AGI
https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/agi/help/where-do-i-correct-my-agi-in-turbotax-online/00/26311

If you can’t get it to efile you will have to print and mail it.

Be sure to attach copies of your W2s and any 1099s that have withholding on them.  You have to mail federal and state in separate envelopes because they go to different places.  Get a tracking number from the post office when you mail them for proof of filing.

You need your 2019 AGI to efile 2020. The AGI is on 2019 1040 line 8b. If you filed a Joint return you use the same AGI for each spouse.

How to find the AGI.

If you didn't file 2019 or filed it later in the year then try entering 0 for the AGI. If that doesn't work you will have to print and mail your return.

My 2019 taxes were rejected because I didn't know my AGI. I'm trying to fix that and get them filed but I'm not finding how to do that. All I need to do is put in my AGI from 2018 and I should be good to go but how do you do that

To access your current or prior year tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the User ID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/

Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and on the section Your tax returns & documents click on Show.  Click on the Year and Click on Download/print return (PDF)

A 2019 tax return can only be printed and mailed, it cannot be e-filed so the 2018 AGI is not needed.

Print, sign, date and mail the tax return to the IRS.  Include with the mailed return any forms W-2 and 1099 which have taxes withheld.  Go to this IRS website for mailing addresses - https://www.irs.gov/filing/where-to-file-paper-tax-returns-with-or-without-a-payment

There are no penalties for filing a tax return after the due date if filing for a tax refund or there are no taxes owed.

I need to refile my 2019 taxes as they were rejected for AGi.

You do not need to refile your 2019 taxes.  You only need to file your 2019 taxes once.  Keep trying to re enter your 2019 AGI.  If you have repeatedly re-entered the corrected number and got rejected, you would need to submit your return by mail.  Please also try the number zero.  See link here:  Correct AGI got rejected

There are three ways you can use to locate your AGI:

If you have your last year's tax return, read here: Find your AGI

If you used TurboTax online to file, you can access your account here Login and download a copy of your prior year’s 1040 tax return to find your AGI.  Click here for instructions: Prior year's return

If you do not have a copy of the tax forms, you may order a transcript from the IRS.  Click here Get  Transcript and select  "Get Transcript Online "  or request a full copy of your past year's tax return.  Click here: https://www.irs.gov/forms-pubs/about-form-4506

Once you obtained your 2019 AGI, follow this link Fix a reject to return to your account to enter your AGI and re-submit.

The 2019 AGI is on the 2019 federal tax return you filed last year.  Form 1040 Line 8b

To access your prior year online tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the User ID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/

Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and on the section Your tax returns & documents click on Show.  Click on the Year and Click on View adjusted gross income (AGI)

If you used the desktop CD/Download editions installed on your computer, the only copy of your tax data file and any PDF's will be on the computer where the return was created.  TurboTax does not store online any returns completed using the desktop editions.

Or go to this IRS website for free federal tax return transcripts - https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript

The best thing to do is to make an appointment at the IRS office in the nearest city to you and take all of your documents with you and sit down face to face with a representative who can help you work out your issues.
