If you see "not started," you can ignore this message. But if you see "needs review" beside the 1099-MISC topic, try these options:
1. Have you tried answering "yes" to the question about having Form 1099-MISC? It's possible there is an entry there that you can delete (trashcan icon). This is unlikely, though, since you didn't find one in your list of forms.
2. The only other option is to answer "yes" and enter a dummy 1099-MISC with zero for all boxes. Continue back to the list of income topics. Then see if you can go back to the 1099-MISC topic and delete the dummy form.
Did you have a 1099-MISC when you did your 2023 tax return in TurboTax. It may have transferred from last year. Refer to the TurboTax Help article How do I edit or delete a 1099-MISC? for navigation instructions to delete.
Thanks for the advice. I read the article and it says to go to 1099-Misc in your return and "
However, when I got to 1099-Misc it doesn't have an option to delete it. It just says "Not Started" and "Start." If I click on Start it brings up a screen that asks if I received a 1099-Misc. I click on No and it takes me back to the original screen which still lists 1099-Misc with the same "Not Started" and "Start button options. I guess I'lljust ignore it.
No, I have never had a 1099-Misc form before.
Your other option is to check if you have a blank Form 1099-MISC in your return. Use the instructions below to see the forms in your return. If there's a 1099-MISC, you can try deleting it from the list.

If you are using the Desktop version of our software:
Thanks, Patricia. I followed your instructions to the letter and was able to bring up the list of forms as you described. However, Form 1099-Misc is not listed there. There are numerous other Forms 1099, of course. Most of those are for interest or dividend income, which I have. I also have Form-1099-B. That is new for this year and pertains to some real estate that we sold. I wonder if that is somehow connected to this Form 1099-Misc that has appeared. I looked at my previous tax returns and I do not see a Form 1099-Misc for any previous filing. This is starting to feel like a glitch in the Turbotax software (online version). To reiterated, I still see "Income from Form 1099-MISC" listed under Wages & Income. It says "NOT STARTED" and has a button labeled "Start". When I click on that Start button it asks "Did you get a 1099-MISC?" I click on "No" and it goes back to the original list of "Your income and expenses" and "Income from Form 1099-MISC" is still listed there, with the Start button displayed. This list displays the various income amounts for both 2023 and 2024 for my other income types but no income is given for the mysterious Form 1099-Misc. I have said No I do not have this form several times now and it just won't go away!

I cleared my cache and also tried logging in using a different browser with the same result. I also tried saying Yes to having this form which brings up a page where I could list zero income as you suggested. However, it asks for the Payers name and federal ID number. I started to put in an imaginary name but once I saw that it was asking for the federal ID I clicked the Back button and gave up on that solution. That did bring up a screen where I could say Delete it, which I did. However, it is still there, as before.
I completed my first go through on my return and did the review. The absence of a completed Form 1099-Misc is not noted as a problem. I am thinking that the solution might just be to ignore it.
I am attending a Tubotax seminar tomorrow and I may ask them if they have any other ideas.
Thanks much for your many helpful suggestions for trying t resolve this problem for me!
Yes, if your return passes Final Review, you can ignore the screen message and e-file your return.
It's NOT SOLVED!
Its turbo tax software issue. Many have reported on it on other threads!
Instead of us filing our returns with this issue even if we pass the accuracy test - this issue will be transferred onto our 2025 answers should we use TT - Why isn't TT fixing it?
This experience has been reported to our development team and should be resolved with the update scheduled for Friday March 7, 2025. Because updates are released after business hours Pacific time, we recommend waiting until the day after to run Review again.
Note that TurboTax Online is automatically updated after midnight on form release dates. TurboTax for Desktop is updated when you first open the program.
We appreciate your patience while your concerns were addressed by our programmers.
